PLAYSTATION 5 ACCESSORIES - HEADSET, CAMERA, DUALSENSE

A range of next-generation PlayStation 5 accessories has been revealed, but with very little detail. In the same striking design as the console, Sony has confirmed a HD Camera, Pulse 3D wireless headset, a media remote and a charging dock for the DualSense controller.

DualSense – New Wireless Controller

The DualSense has kept what gamers love about the DualShock 4 as well as adding new enhancing features and sleek new design. The DualSense has adaptive triggers built into the L2 and R2 buttons so you can truly feel the tension of your actions, a strong battery life with rechargeable battery whilst also keeping the controller lightweight. From the success of PlayStation's industry-first Share button, they bring you a new “Create” button feature. With "Create", there are new ways for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy for themselves and there are more details on this feature to come.

The DualSense has a two-toned design and a different position of the light bar that sits on each side of the touchpad which will give it an extra pop. From the moment you turn on your controller, you will be transported into your games with ultimate immersion.

As you can see from the confirmed specs, the PS5 is certainly going to be a significant upgrade from the PS4, Sony have clearly used the last 7 years well!

Custom SSD – Lightning Fast Loading

What can we expect from the next generation of consoles? Well, according to Mark Cerny, we can expect an impressive ultra-high-speed SSD at 5.5GB/s. Not only is this SSD super-fast, but it also has 825GB of storage. Supporting this SSD will be a custom flash controller, maximising SSD potential and allowing priority levels load in the order of importance to keep gameplay smooth. But that’s not all, the PS5 will have an integrated custom I/O system 100x faster than the PS4.

So, what does this mean? The SSD is much faster than the PS4 hard drive, and we mean lightning fast. Say goodbye to loading screens, reloads, loading the game up and even fast travel. This will essentially change how you play your games, as you’ll no longer be removed from the experience for the next section to load. It also means gaming worlds can be bigger because they can load up in the blink of an eye.

To summarise, the PS5 will boot up games in a second, remove load screens, provide more game data on the disc and on SSD as well as trying to rid us of patch installs!

Custom GPU – Realistic and Immersive Experiences

Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 5 will run on an AMD CPU chip, based on AMD’s Ryzen line. It’s an eight-core, custom-made, based on AMD’s new microarchitecture. The CPU is a custom variant from AMD Radeon’s Navi family, which is beginning to appear in high-end PC processors.

But what does this look like for the next-generation console? The setup will support 8K resolutions and ray tracing for future PS5 games. This will improve the visual fidelity, especially with the way light moves and bounces from objects, especially with reflective surfaces such as water and glass. This means shadows, lightning and water can look more realistic than we’ve seen before.

Ray Tracing also offers audio enhancements for developers and players. To improve this further, the PS5 will also feature a custom unit for 3D audio taking audio and sound improvements to the next level. “With the next console the dream is to show how dramatically different the audio experience can be when we apply significant amounts of hardware horsepower to it” said Mark Cerny in a previous interview.
