The famous Professor Hershel Layton is missing, and it is up to his daughter Katrielle - a smart and spirited young lady with a knack for arriving at the truth in spite of paltry evidence - to take centre stage as the new protagonist.

Thankfully, Katrielle isn't alone – a young student by the name of Ernest Greeves joins the agency as her assistant, and the team quickly grows to three when Sherl, a talking dog, becomes Katrielle’s first client and subsequent trusty sidekick.
